THE TEAM

BIOS

KRIS URLAUB

Kris grew up in Mendocino County riding on ranches and showing horses and beef in local shows.  After working at a cutting barn and starting colts in high school, she came to UC Davis and graduated with a degree in Animal Science with a specialization in Equine Science.  While at UCD, she taught lessons at the Equestrian Center and  rode on the Equestrian Team, working her way up to Open Horsemanship and Reining.  She claimed a Reserve Regional Championship in Novice Horsemanship and Regional Champion Open Reining Rider, as well as becoming the 2007 AQHA Championship Reserve Regional High Point Rider.

Kris's goal as coach is to develop the team into a competitive, sportsmanlike group of competent, all around riders.  The team works hard to develop their riding skills and meet both their individual and team goals, while not forgetting to have fun while doing it.

ANNAMARIE NEES

4th year
Animal Science and Management major with her specialty in livestock.

Annamarie grew up in San Diego, CA and has been riding for ten years. She joined the Western Team freshman year and was the team secretary last year. Annamarie's goal is to work in the beef industry and eventually own and run her own cattle ranch. In her free time she likes to spend time with her horse, Ty.

Annamarie is very proud of this team and everything this team has done. Please never hesitate to ask questions or address your concerns. She would love to help in any way she can.  Please feel free to contact her via e-mail at arnees@ucdavis.edu.

KATIE MCEACHIN

3rd Year
Animal Science Major focusing on Equine Science

My goal is to continue riding reined cow horses throughout school and after graduating attending Veterinary school. I plan to specialize in performance horses, specifically reining horses and reined cow horses.

Nicole San Jose

4th Year
Animal Science Major

Nicole grew up in a cow town called Chino in southern California. She started her riding career competing in the hunter/jumper circuit. She switched to riding western and mainly competed in barrel racing and pole bending through High School Rodeo on her quarter horse mare, Idaho. Currently, she competes through IHSA at the advanced western horsemanship level and hope to point out to the open level this year to compete in reining.

She has goals to enter veterinary school. She works for the U.C. Davis Veterinary School and the Equestrian Center. She is also involved with the Rodeo Club and the Vet Aide Club and am the Pre-Vet Student Advisor for the Internship and Career Center so if you have any questions about those organizations feel free to ask!

Meghan Oats

2nd Year
Environmental Science and Management

Meghan is a Class 14 (Intermediate Horsemanship Rider).  She has been riding horses since the ripe age of 4.  She has shown through various organizations in multiple events.  As She got older and more experienced, she became interested in and narrowed my focus to Reined Cow Horse events.  Her six-year-old Quarter Horse mare, Texi, joins her at the UC Davis Equestrian Center.

Erica Zinola-Noddings

2nd Year
Anthropology Major

After she graduates she would love to attend graduate school at Oxford University. Or if that plan
doesn’t work out, she’d love to find a job that allows her to work with horses. She claims she has been
lucky enough to learn to ride at a young age and continue riding through college. As a kid she used to show at local shows and loved it when October rolled around. It meant Fun show where we dressed our horses up in home-made costumes!! Halloween is her favorite holiday!!

Kelli Davis

3rd Year
Animal Science and Management with an Equine Emphasis

Kelli is a student at UCD with a dream to pursue a career in Equine Reproduction after attending veterinary school. This is her third year on the UC Davis Western Equestrian team, but she has been riding for about 13 years. She spends her summers guiding tourists on horseback rides near Lake Tahoe at Alpine Meadows Stables. Despite never owning her own horse, she always look to incorporate horses into her everyday life.

Melanie Wray

Hailing from Huntington Beach, CA, Melanie is a 4th year at UC Davis Majoring in Biotechnology and Minoring Technology Management. She will be graduating this fall. She has been riding horses for over 14 years, the majority of which has been the western discipline.
